W. Virginia wagers $37m in first month of igaming

DraftKings Casino began operating in the state in July.

US.- West Virginia saw players place $37.2 million in online wagers in the first four weeks of regulated online casino gaming.

DraftKings Casino is the only legal online platform to go live in the state so far. It entered the market through a deal with Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino.

It generated $824,639 in revenue for the four weeks ending August 8, $123,696 (15 per cent) of which was paid to the state in privilege taxes.

It remains to be seen how long DraftKings casino will have the West Virginia market to itself. Flutter and MGM have access under The Greenbrier’s licence, which means brands such as FanDuel Casino and BetMGM could be on their way. Both already offer online sports betting in the state but have yet to announce plans to launch casino gaming.

West Virginia is one of four states in which igaming is legal, the others being Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Delaware’s igaming handle was up by 162 per cent in July.
