US.- Authorities in North Carolina have raided three casinos that are allegedly operated by the Tuscarora Nation, a tribe that lacks federal and state recognition. The investigation prior to these events have been carried out for more than a year.
As the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation revealed in a statement, 26 members of the Tuscarora Nation were arrested this week after a yearlong investigation, which started after neighbours complained, Alcohol Law Enforcement head Terrance Merriweather explained.
Merriweather defined the Tuscarora Nation as a sovereign citizens group that openly expressed beliefs that neither the laws of North Carolina nor the United States applied to them. The leader of the group, Kendall Locklear, is among the 26 that have been arrested, but the organization is yet to release a statement.
