The Stars Group obtains licence in Sweden

The local gambling regulator has granted a licence that will allow the company to operate in the country.

Sweden.- The Swedish gambling regulator, Lotteriinspektionen, has approved a new licence that will pave the way for The Stars Group to operate in the European country from January 1, 2019.

With the new approval, Sweden currently has 19 legal operators working in the online market. The news comes just a few days after the regulator revealed that it had granted multiple licences for operators ahead of the reorganisation of the local market due at the beginning of 2019.

So far, the regulator has received more than 95 licence applications, with more than 70 involving games in the online gaming market. The entity is set to change its name to Spelinspektionen at the end of the year as part of a reorganisation process.

Some of the companies that have been licensed are AB Svenska Spel, Betsson, Hillside Gaming, Interwetten Gaming, Kindred Group and LeoVegas. The regulator detailed that those companies who have filed for a licence but haven’t received it yet will be informed about the decision in the upcoming weeks.
