Switzerland grants online extension to two casinos

The Federal Council of Switzerland has granted two casinos an extension of their licences to operate online casino games.

Switzerland.- The Federal Council of Switzerland met this week to discuss two online casino licences. The authority decided to grant a licence extension to casinos in Berne and Interlaken, which are now authorised to conduct online casino games thanks to the Federal Gaming Board (ESBK) permit.

The gaming act, which came into effect on January 1, 2019, gives the 21 casinos in the country the chance to offer their games online. In order to do so, they need a concession extension, which is granted by the Federal Council.

The council has approved the requests of the Grand Casino Kursaal Bern AG and Casino Interlaken AG. Before launching their operations online, the ESBK rules establish that the authority needs to check the casinos’ offerings and then grant permission to individual games.

The first four concession extensions were granted by the Federal Council at its meeting on June 7.  Grand Casino Baden AG, Casino Davos AG, Grand Casino Lucerne AG and Casino Zürichsee AG received the licence extension after successful examination, and they all kicked off their operations between July 5 and September 9.
