Sri Lanka warns lottery agents

Sri Lanka’s government announced further increments on lottery ticket price.

Sri Lanka.- Whilst national lottery agents are on a strike due to the price increment on the sector, the government has warned them by assuring that new agents would be hired. Sri Lanka’s authorities are set to rise the current price of lottery tickets, which agents consider it would affect the sales.

The Sri Lanka Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake stated that the government rejects the current agents’ strike and that new workers would be hired if it was not finished right away. The Minister said the protest is “unacceptable” and the government is ready to take measures.

The current lottery ticket price is US$0.13, whilst the increment demanded by the government is US$0.65, resulting in US$0.19.  The price increment proposal was introduced yesterday, January 1, and led to the immediate agents strike.
