Sportsbet sues CrownBet
Australian sports betting companies enter into a legal battle over the name of the brand.
Australia.- During last weekend, the sports betting operator Sportsbet announced that the company has started a legal battle against CrownBet in Australia over the name of the brand. According to latest reports released by CrownBet, the Australian company could change the current name to Sportingbet.
The international company Sportsbet is operated by a division of UK-listed gambling operator Paddy Power Betfair and refuses to allow CrownBet to use a similar name to the already-established sports betting platform. The lawsuit states that CrownBet’s attempt to use the new name is infringing on Sportsbet’s trademark.
Earlier this year, major sports betting operator William Hill accomplished its plan of leaving the Australian market after facing several problems with the country’s authorities. As revealed by the international media, William Hill’s Australian unit was acquired by CrownBet Holdings and a group of shareholders associated with the founder and CEO Matthew Tripp.
Now the whole group expects the beginning of a legal battle against the UK sports betting division Sportsbet, as on July 25th the Australia Justice system has set a federal court hearing on the dispute.
