RGA to discuss advertising code in the UK

The association is expected to discuss the advertising code that its companies are supposed to adhere to.

UK.- The board of the Remote Gambling Association (RGA) is expected to meet today to discuss the advertising code that is set to restrict television ads from gambling companies. Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, William Hill and Bet365 are some of the association’s members that will be affected by this change.

Today’s agenda is expected to contain a series of measures destined to restrict tv ads. The proposals to be discussed by the board include a complete ban on pre-watershed advertising by gambling companies, a restriction on the number of gaming ads to one per commercial break and banning the ‘in-play’ ads during live broadcasts of football and other matches, local media Sky News reported.

It is still uncertain if the body will reach a consensus during today’s meeting and is expected to require further consultation before the RGA recommends policies for the industry. However, the meeting’s agenda is an indication that the RGA is willing to come up with new measures to regulate the industry.

Last month, GVC said that it recognised that the public believes that there are too many betting ads on TV and that it will “support a move to ban gambling adverts around football, before the 9 pm watershed.”
