Public poll supports inquiry into BC casinos

A new poll shows that British Columbians support a public inquiry into money laundering allegations.

Canada.- A new public poll conducted by Research Co revealed that people are in favour of a public inquiry into alleged money laundering in British Columbia casinos and real estate. The allegations emerged after Attorney General David Eby launched an independent review in September 2017.

Mario Canseco, who conducted the poll for Research Co., said that the numbers show that voters closely follow the reports on international money laundering in local casinos. The poll asked what measures would be supported to fight money laundering and if they would support a public inquiry, which was approved by three out of four respondents.

“I think there is an appetite to find out who is responsible and to look at the political system,” Canseco said. “For some of the things we learned in the reports, there has to be a system in place that allows people to exploit the situation. People want to look at the chain of command involved in setting out guidelines for gaming in B.C.”

Approximately 40 per cent of people said that the government “definitely should” launch the public inquiry, while 36 per cent said the BC government “probably should.” Nine per cent said that they weren’t sure, while 10 per cent said the government should not hold an inquiry. The other five per cent said that there should “definitely not” be an inquiry.
