Philippines sets conditions for casinos

Casino operators would have to comply new security requirements to prevent further attacks.

Philippines.- Gaming and touristic facilities in the Philippines will be trained by the national police to properly act during armed attacks. The government demanded stricter measures to control the activities in highly touristic places as well as threats, bombs and active shooter exercises to prevent further incidents.

“We will be having a seminar first, then contingency planning with the establishments’ security officers,” commented to AGBrief Manila Police District (MPD) director Chief Supt. Joel Coronel. The official assured that seven hotels and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) casinos will be part of the police training.

“After the Resorts World incident, I’m sure all police stations in Metro Manila are in full alert,” continued Coronel. “We’ve learned lessons from that incident so we should adapt and change.”

The exercise was announced after the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that Resorts World Manila’s security failed when a man initiated several fires in the casino and killed 38 people. The officials said that the casino failed to execute a containment plan during the attack.

Travellers International Hotel Group Inc, the company behind the Resorts World Manila, which has suffered a serious shooting with multiple deaths, had to comply with Pagcor’s security conditions in order to reopen the gaming venue last week. Casino operators have compromised to reinforce their security systems to offer a safer space for both international tourist and local visitors.
