PAGCOR denies Galaxy’s exit from Boracay

Despite rumours, PAGCOR assured that Galaxy Entertainment hasn’t abandoned its plans to develop an integrated resort in Boracay.

Philippines.- Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.’s (PAGCOR) chairwoman Andrea Domingo has denied recent claims that Galaxy Entertainment Group would abandon its integrated resort project in Boracay. She stated that there’s still a final decision to be made on the issue and denied any formal communication between PAGCOR and the Secretary of Tourism on the matter.

Ms Domingo denied all claims to local media outlet The Inquirer and asserted the US$500 million project still stands.

“LRWC continues to be in talks with its partner Galaxy Entertainment Group. Both parties have not reached any final decision regarding its planned Boracay resort project,” Katrina Nepomuceno, LRWC vice president and corporate secretary, also told GMA News Online this week. “Contrary to claims that Galaxy has abandoned its planned Boracay project, no such announcement has been made nor communicated with PAGCOR,” she added.

Tourism Assistant Secretary Frederick Alegre was the official who generated the controversy after he told news reporters that the companies involved in the Boracay project were going to drop the project: “Galaxy has said they are now looking for another venue. That is very much welcome,” local media quoted.
