The sports betting and gaming operator has withdrawn from the British market.

UK.- The sports betting and gaming operator Novibet has given up its British remote gambling licence and has ceased operating in the British market. It announced the move via a banner on its Novibet.co.uk site.

Novibet said it had taken the decision for commercial reasons. It told customers to withdraw funds from their gaming accounts.

The Gambling Commission said Novibet must follow standard closure rules, which require it to meet outstanding liabilities, including honouring bets due post-closure and providing clear information to customers through all available channels, such as direct contact and social media.

The regulator said customers should contact Novibet via its website if they had questions.

It said: “The operator is aware that we expect an orderly closure of its website to GB consumers and this includes providing consumers with clear information on how to obtain their funds.”

Earlier this week, local governments in the UK called for more powers to control betting and gaming. In a joint response to the national government’s review of gambling legislation, the Local Government Association (LGA) and Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) said local councils should have more powers to prevent the opening of betting shops, slots arcades and casinos.
