New York legislators will also debate a pontential sports betting market based on US Supreme Court’s resolution.

US.- Several states’ governments have been showing interest in debating the development of local sports betting markets due to the federal battle among New Jersey and anti-sports betting group. As the US Supreme Court is espected to soon reveal a resolution on the issue, New York legislators will hold hearings to address the debate.

Whithin the following weeks, state’s authorities will be discussing the possible legalisation of the highly popular gaming modality, according to oficial reports. Furthermore, on January 24th, the Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee will also “discuss the potential of sports betting in New York State.”

Under current legislation, sports betting is banned federalwide, except in four states: Nevada, Oregon, Delaware and Montana, as all four of those states were offering some variation of sports lotteries back in 1992, when the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) was approved. The Government of New Jersey has begun a lawsuit to amend the act and allow further states to regulate their own sports betting market.

Since the beginning of the legal battle, New Jersey has gathered the support of the American Gaming Association (AGA) and the National Indian Gaming Association’s (NIGA). Meanwhile, further states’ governments, such as Kentucky’s, Michigan’s and Indiana’s, decided to also address the debate and evaluate the possibilities of developing the sports betting sector.
