US.- Casinos in New Orleans have reported declines in revenue for August after Hurricane Ida forced closures for several days. Casinos generated $30.5m, down 5.3 per cent from $32.2m in the same month last year.

Casinos in South West Louisiana had to close in late August as Hurricane Ida headed towards the state. Some casinos closed for up to ten days.

Harrah’s New Orleans Hotel and Casino had already beaten its revenue from August 2020 when it had to close. It took $13.7m, up 16 per cent from $11.8m from August 2020. However, the riverboat casino Amelia Belle saw revenue for the month fall 32 per cent to $1.7m.
