New Jersey, near DFS approval
A daily fantasy sports (DFS) bill is set to be implemented, as it only needs New Jersey’s Governor signature.
US.- New Jersey is near a complete approval of daily fantasy sports (DFS) as the bill only requires the signature of the state’s Governor Chris Christie in order to finally become effective. The Bill A3532 received the necessary votes to be implemented, whilst New Jersey is fighting for a broad sports betting legislation at a federal level.
Last Friday the Legislature of the state finally passed the DFS project, which soon could take effect once Christie signs it. Licensed daily fantasy sports platforms would be able to operate separately or under agreements with authorised casino and racetracks operators, according to Casino News Daily. The bill considers DFS as a game of skill rather than gambling.
DFS operators would contribute to New Jersey funds with an annual tax of 10.5 percent on winnings. If the bill accomplishes its purpose, the activity would be authorised and regulated by New Jersey Legislature, whilst the state’s Division of Consumer Affairs would be in charge of permissions and control of the operations.
Meanwhile, New Jersey’s government is trying to withdraw the federal injunction that eliminates the possibility of legislating sports betting industry. Supporters of the project aim at dismissing the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA) to be able to grant sports betting licenses.
