“Peru Gaming Show is the country’s biggest showcase for the gaming industry”
(Exclusive interview).- David Orrick, Director of Industry Relations at Merkur Gaming, talked with Focus Gaming News after the company’s successful performance at PGS 2019.
After attending Peru Gaming Show 2019, Merkur Gaming discussed with Focus Gaming News the keys to the show and the Latin American industry. David Orrick, Director of Industry Relations at Merkur Gaming, assessed the company’s performance and the region’s market.
Merkur Gaming’s stand at PGS 2019 proved to be the most attractive. How did the company experience this edition of the event, knowing that it was one of the biggest so far?
The collective opinion of our Team at PGS was that this had been a well run, well organised and highly successful event, particularly for the Merkur Gaming. Our fellow Gauselmann Group companies GeWeTe, the cash handling experts and Edict (online Casino solutions providers) also had an excellent show: I saw a positive comment from Edict stating that PGS had ‘exceeded all their expectations’.
The main hall was familiar in both its layout and its exhibitors and, while the first day started relatively slowly, that was due to the adjacent conference that had some 500 attendees. The show’s expansion area, featuring a revised entrance and exit, provided a great venue for some new exhibitors (mainly from the online and sports betting sectors) and was also judged to have been a success.
Once again, the Merkur Gaming booth proved to be the focal point of the entire show. With a brand new booth design, a great Team, new products never seen before in Peru and of course the now traditional Merkur Beer Garden (expanded this year to cope with demand) we experienced a show that was busy, exciting and as vibrant as the gaming appreciation culture for which Peru is rightly famous.
Peru Gaming Show is the country’s biggest showcase for the gaming industry.
Merkur Gaming is already the biggest provider of casino technology in Peru. How does PGS boost the company’s expansion in the country? What are the highlights of reuniting with current clients and meeting new ones at the event?
Peru Gaming Show is the country’s biggest showcase for the gaming industry. It may not be the biggest but it is certainly one of the most friendly, and that leads to a highly positive atmosphere in which to meet our customers and business partners, existing and new, in order to achieve our primary objective of successfully doing business.
What was the public’s reaction of Merkur Gaming’s technology at PGS? Did you meet all your expectations there?
There was no doubt whatsoever that the presentation that we made in Lima of Merkur Gaming’s latest innovation, Rapid Thunder, was the star of the show. The reaction from show visitors to this brand new gaming entertainment concept was simply sensational and, of course, a reaction that enthused and energised our entire team. As a brand leader in Peru we always come to PGS with high expectations. This year we can certainly say that, across our entire product offering, those expectations were met!
We proceed in our traditional step by step manner and await further developments with great interest.
Merkur Gaming has recently expanded its presence to Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. And you also confirmed the expansion plans to Ecuador and Brazil once they legalise the industry. What are the benefits and the challenges of the Latin American casino markets?
Latin America is a hot spot regional market that continues to expand as its sophistication and mass appeal spreads across a wide range of countries. The constant aim of Merkur Gaming Americas is expansion: both within existing markets and, as you suggest, into new markets as they occur. We can highlight Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay as the most recent of these developments and, for countries where fully regulated gaming is yet to be confirmed, we proceed in our traditional step by step manner and await further developments with great interest.
