Match-fixing scandal in Bosnia

Bosnia police have arrested 12 people in a soccer match-fixing case that involves referees and officials.

Bosnia.- The Bosnian Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement in relation to a case in which 12 people were arrested on Monday. The referees and soccer officials were part of a match-fixing investigation into Bosnia’s second division.

The statement details that the suspects are facing charges of organised crime, as they have been implicated in “demanding and receiving gifts and other benefits” to fix games’ outcomes during the 2018-19 season, AP informed.

”Within the framework of this operation, we have arrested 12 people, suspected of organised crime and abuse of power,” a spokesman for the Bosnian Federal Police (Sipa), Luka Miladinovic, told AFP.

The soccer federation from Bosnia publicly said that it fully supports the investigation and that it is ready to help in any way it can. It also said that the damage done by these people is “immeasurable.” Officials also said that the parties under investigation are from the Federal League and not the first division.
