Massachusetts Treasurer pushes for online lottery sales

The state will make another run for approving online lottery products in 2017.

US.- Treasurer Deborah Goldberg announced in a speech to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce that she will file a bill in the Legislature that would create an iLottery. If it passes, Massachusetts would join its counterparts in Michigan, Georgia, Kentucky and Illinois in offering web and mobile lottery products.

“This is a critical economic opportunity that Massachusetts cannot afford to let fall by the wayside. iLottery will make our products more accessible, so we can appeal to younger players while we continue to serve our existing customers,” Goldberg said.

The Treasurer pointed out the importance of Lottery funds to the state, which uses the money to fund services, and stressed the importance of DFS as an example that younger people are a great target for online gaming.

“Any good businessperson will tell you that you cannot wait and see how the competition plays out. We must continue to update and diversify our lottery games in order to protect our long-term growth,” the Treasurer said.
