US.- The State House News Service has reported that Massachusetts casinos turned in record taxes of $27m in July. The contribution from Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park came on the back of revenue of $95.74m.
Encore was the top-performing venue with $59m in revenue. It took in $34m from slots and $25m from table games. MGM followed with $23.71m in revenue, its best performance since Encore opened in 2019. The slot parlour in Plainville took $13m in revenue.
The state expects to collect nearly $260m in gaming revenue annually. It has taken $842.66m since 2011, when gambling was legalised.
Staff shortage
Despite guests demanding poker back at Massachusetts casinos, the Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield said late in July that they couldn’t find enough dealers.
Jacqui Krum, Encore Boston Harbor’s senior vice president and general counsel, told the Gaming Commission.“To be clear, we did not say never to poker. We have said just not at this time. We’re constantly readjusting our offerings based on guest demand.
“Throughout this difficult time, we have really tried to be agile and responsive. However, we do have limited space, and the former poker area is currently occupied by some of our highest-performing slot machines.”
