Malta’s gaming industry could suffer from high rents

An increase in the cost of living has affected competitiveness in Malta, industry representatives argue.

Malta.- Representatives from the gaming industry in Malta informed Parliamentary Secretary Roderick Galdes that rent reforms are urgently needed as the high cost of living was affecting Malta’s competitiveness.

The meeting between gaming industry representatives and government on rent reforms took place on Monday. Representative Enrico Bradamante said that entry-level position workers were suffering, Times of Malta reported. He explained that rent is a key factor when analyzing the cost of living in the industry.

Bradamante added that rent prices should be index-linked to salaries rather than property prices: “The salary index is what ultimately represents purchasing power, whereas the property index has speculation built into it”, he said and added that prices should be regulated by an independent body.
