Malta regulator participated in SiGMA
The Malta Gaming Authority participated this week in the 2019 edition of SiGMA, held at the Fairs and Convention Centre in Ta’ Qali.
Malta.- The sixth edition of SiGMA took place this week in Malta, and the local regulator was part of it. The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) kicked off SiGMA’s Regulatory Conference that took place during the first day of the event.
Heathcliff Farrugia, CEO of the MGA, started the Regulatory Conference that discussed the results and improvement points of the Gaming Act that was introduced a year ago. During his intervention, the MGA’s CEO highlighted the importance of collaboration between regulators stating that “collaboration between regulators takes place already, but more can be done since we share the same objectives.”
The authority’s Senior Counsel for Legal International Affairs & Policy, Yanica Sant, talked about the importance of having adequate player support systems offered by operators and how the MGA is in constant collaboration with the industry to ensure responsible gambling, in line with the Authority’s regulatory objectives.
Moreover, the Chief Legal & Enforcement Officer Carl Brincat discussed the importance of balancing regulation and how the Gaming Act introduced by the MGA and drafted in collaboration with the industry sets out to achieve the goal.
