Las Vegas casinos could open at 100% capacity by June

Nevada casinos could be allowed to reopen at full capacity by June 1 if the vaccination of staff advances.

US.- Governor Steve Sisolak has announced that all casinos in Las Vegas could resume operations at 100 per cent capacity as early as June 1.

The governor said during a press conference that social distancing measures will be lifted on May 1, although the statewide mask mandate will remain in place. He also said he would give county governments the ability to implement their own restrictions if they considered them necessary.

Sisolak said: “I am pleased to announce that I’m very confident every county in the state of Nevada will be able to fully reopen at 100 percent capacity by June 1“.

However, the gaming industry will have to follow what Gaming Control Board mandates.

At the start of April, the NGCB required casinos to ensure the majority of staff were vaccinated by May. The Board said the increase in capacity would be tied to the results of that target.

In response to the requirement, Wynn Resorts asked its employees to receive the vaccine, otherwise they will have to present a weekly Covid-19 negative test to continue working. Other companies have implemented measures to encourage their staff to get vaccinated.
