Las Vegas casino to close mid-week due to lack of business
Encore Las Vegas will close mid-week until the impact of the pandemic passes and consumer demand increases.
US.- Wynn Resorts has announced its Encore Las Vegas property will reduce opening hours and close completely on Tuesdays and Wednesdays due to a lack of business.
As of next week, the resort will open at 2pm on Thursdays and close at noon on Mondays.
A press release from Wynn stated that the new hours will remain in place “until consumer demand for Las Vegas increases.”
It is still uncertain what effect the reduced hours will have on staff at the property.
A Wynn representative said: “We have not yet determined the number of employees who will be furloughed as a result of the reduction in operating hours.”
Wynn Las Vegas, also situated on the strip, will continue to operate full opening hours.
Speaking to media, UNLV gaming historian David Schwartz said that other casinos are likely to follow Wynn’s decision.
Schwartz said: “With most conventions being on hiatus, we don’t have a lot of mid-week occupancy, so it makes sense to close hotels, or even the entire resort during the week. If the current conditions continue, we could see more properties do this.”
