Japanese racecourse to reopen next week
The facility will open despite not being fully recovered from the earthquake that hit earlier this month.
Japan.- Mombetsu Racecourse authorities have revealed that the facility will reopen its doors on September 25, almost three weeks after the region suffered damages due to an earthquake.
The racecourse said that it is not fully recovered from the Hokkaido earthquake that took place on September 6, and neither is the city. While water and sewage services are yet to be restored, it is expected that they will be fully functional by next week’s reopening.
Despite Mombetsu restarting its operations, the schedule of the horse races will be affected, as the night events will be rescheduled to daytime, mainly because the city has an electricity crisis.
Hokkaido is set to bid for an integrated resort, and it is confident that its visitors number will positively affect the government’s decision: the city revealed that it reached a record number of tourists visiting the area in the fiscal year 2017, as it registered 56.1 million visitors, 3% more than the previous period.
