Japan adds proposals

Another city in Japan submitted its touristic project to compete for a casino and resort license.

Japan.- As legislators move forward with casino regulations, local cities are competing for gaming licenses in order to host the most expected touristic attractions of the region, the Integrated Resorts. This week the Tokoname city has joined the competition by drafting a casino project, which is being discussed since last December.

Tokoname city could be an attractive gaming zone as it also hosts the Chubu Centrair International Airport. The Japanese area would be competing with Tokyo, Osaka and Yokohama during the bidding process. However, further cities and rural towns may also join the competition as several complaints were presented due to lack of participation. Rural areas argued that tourism and gaming development should activate local economy.

The Tokoname government and prefectural representatives would contribute with the casino proposals to present soon a comprehensive plan. Last Monday, the City Council urged officials for help to draft the project. Tokoname City Council Chairman Kazutoshi Kawahara commented to AGB: “While an IR can be expected to contribute to the promotion of tourism, measures against gambling addiction are also necessary.”

As the Japanese press revealed, Tokoname City Council suggested that the casino development would be set in the coastal area near the Chubu Centrair International Airport, which is the country’s eighth busiest airport.
