GOA claims casino referendum
The opposition party demands a referendum on casino businesses.
India.- GOA’s opposition party filed a petition to set a ballot on casinos regulation. Currently, the Indian State is part of the small portion of the country where gambling is legal, under strict legislation.
“The time has come for an opinion poll on the issue of casinos… Casinos have made Goa into a vice capital of India,” said Congress state President Luizinho Faleiro. Opponents want people to decide where to maintain casino industry in the region.
Indian Popular Party –BJP– commented earlier this year that GOA became the “sin city of India” when the State’s government legalise casinos. Since then, several authorities are discussing whether to ban gambling again or boost the industry. Goa currently has five offshore casinos and nearly a dozen onshore casinos.
