The UK gaming exclusion service has reported that it now has 257,000 registrants.

UK.- The gaming exclusion tool Gamstop’s annual review has revealed a 32 per cent surge in registrations in the second half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020. It had received 257,000 registrations by the end of 2021 and 235,000 of those continue to exclude from gambling.

There was a 25 per cent rise in registrations in the first half of the year, increasing to 32 per cent in the second half. Some 70 per cent of registrants were men, but the number of women using the service has grown. Half of all registrants chose the maximum gambling exclusion period of five years, while 24 per cent chose one year and 26 per cent six months.

Gamstop CEO Fiona Palmer said: “Registrations have remained high throughout 2021. While it is hard to gauge how associated this is to the pandemic, what is clear is that self-exclusion is an increasingly important tool for those who wish to remove the temptation of online gambling.

“We are very lucky to have many committed partners who work hard to raise awareness of the Gamstop service, and I want to place on record our thanks to all of them. We will continue to work hard to ensure that people have access to the tools that are essential to their recovery.”

In January, the industry standards association, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), selected Gamstop to run a trial of a single-customer view for gaming operators.

single-customer view, which government minister Chris Philp has been pushing the industry to develop, would allow data to be shared so that licensed operators can use information about a player’s activity with other licensees to inform their assessments of risk.
