Gambling revenue drops 9.5 in Macau

April’s results saw a new decline in the gambling hub’s revenue for the 23rd consecutive month.

Macau.- Macau reported a fall of 9.5 percent in gambling revenue for April, marking the 23rd consecutive monthly decline and hitting lows not seen in more than five years.

The Asian gambling hub has been struggling to attract high-spending punters, whilst China’s pervasive campaign against conspicuous spending among public officials in addition to slowing economic growth are generally perceived as the main reasons behind the crisis.

According to the data showed by the government on Sunday, April revenue dropped to 17.34 billion patacas (US$2.16 billion) although analysts had predicted a decline of 11-16 percent, so the final results were not as bad as expected.
