UK.- The gambling sector has begun its response to the war in Ukraine with a fundraising effort to help those displaced by the violence.

A Gaming Industry for Ukraine initiative on GoFundMe aims to raise £250,000 to donate to the charity Choose Love’s Ukraine Crisis Fundraiser.

GoFundMe has received donations from various operators and affiliate groups. The initiative is also calling for donations of unused promotional material such as power banks, towels, water bottles and clothing.

It comes as an estimated 680,000 people have fled Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country. Choose Love aims to raise funds to help deliver emergency medical care, food, shelter and other support to those still in the country and those who have been displaced.

A spokesperson from ‘Gaming Industry for Ukraine’ commented: “The global gambling industry is a family and what has become clear over the past few days is the strength of responsibility it feels in providing assistance to the people of Ukraine.

“Most organisations employ people from the country, or have done business in the region, shared a drink with them and above all have made friends with them.”
