Coronavirus: Dutch regulator fires warning shot at iGaming operators

The Dutch gaming regulator condemns off-shore iGaming operators using the Coronavirus outbreak to target players in the country.

Netherlands.- Dutch gaming regulator Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) criticised illegal iGaming operators for allegedly taking advantage of the Coronavirus crisis. The body says they are aware of “additional activities by illegal online gambling providers and their advertisers.”

The authorities say unauthorised companies are trying to “take advantage of the fact that arcades and gaming casinos have had to close their doors due to the Coronavirus.”

According to the KSA’s Chief, René Jansen, they’ve these operators are undertaking “completely objectionable” marketing tactics.

The regulator also warned such activity will “will weigh heavily in a possible application” for online operators looking to enter the soon to be regulated Danish market.

The pandemic has forced the Netherlands to take significant measures to curb the spread of the virus, with all casinos closed until April 6.
