Danske Spil names Karsten Fogh Holanng to lead online division

Karsten Fogh Holanng has been appointed as chief executive of the state-owned operator’s online gambling division.

Denmark.- The board of Danske Spil has appointed Karsten Fogh Holanng as chief executive for the state-controlled operator’s sportsbook and online gambling division Licens Spil, effective from February 2022.

He will replace Niels Erik Folmann, who will leave the role after nine years to become chief commercial officer at the Danish theme park operator Tivoli.

Holanng has been the division’s chief information officer since 2016. In his new role, he will oversee Danske Spil’s online gambling portfolio, which includes the verticals Oddset, Tips, Casino, Bingo and Poker.

Group CEO Nikolas Lyhne-Knudsen said Holanng was the logical candidate.

He said: “Karsten has in-depth knowledge of the business and our partners, and he has delivered great results as IT officer at Danske Spil. I am pleased that we can draw even more on Karsten’s extensive commercial and managerial experience in the role of director of Danske Licens Spil.”

He added: “Niels, together with his entire strong team, has, among other things, succeeded in maintaining our market leader position and balancing our approach to responsibility with strong, financial results. We owe Niels a big thank you for that, and I wish him the best of luck in his new role.”

Danske Spil is still looking for a replacement for Pernille Mehl as CEO of Danske Spil Lotteries. She leaves the position at the end of this month after six years.
