Crown employees charged with gambling offenses

Australia’s Crown employees that were detained in China were finally charged with gambling offenses.

China.- The Crown Resorts employees that were detained in October in China have been formally charged with offenses related to gambling promotion. The company didn’t say the number of employees that were charged.

Among the arrested, there are marketing and VIP programs employees, and as the Chinese legislation establishes, foreign casinos are not allowed to advertise gambling in mainland China. “Crown Resorts Limited announced today that all its detained employees in China, as well as those employees released on bail, have now been charged with offences related to the promotion of gambling,” said Crown in a statement during a filing to the Australian Stock Exchange yesterday, as abc.net.au reported.

As the news outlet confirmed, Professor of the University of Western Australia, Nolan Sharkey, was consulted by both organisations and governments and that in this specific case, they could be more concerned about wanting to present that they are doing the right thing. “I suppose they are taking their time to counter accusations that they are acting arbitrarily and are dealing with it properly under Chinese law,” he added.
