CNMI creates gaming committee
The new committee is set to be responsible of all matters regarding the gaming industry in the Mariana Islands.
US.- The Senate of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) has formed a new committee that will address gaming concerns in the territory. The new entity will be led by Senator Justo Quitugua.
“The Senate [felt] like the committee had to be set up to address anything and everything to do with the gaming industry in the CNMI. In this case, [it’s relating to] resort operator Imperial Pacific International (CNMI) LLC, because of the magnitude of the gaming industry here in the CNMI,” said Senator Jude Hofschneider, R-Tinian, who unveiled that the Senate first discussed the idea of forming a committee before passing it to the chair and vice chair. As Saipan Tribune reported, the Senate gaming committee has been working for more than a week now.
The impact of the industry and how it affects the community, as well as regulatory measures, will be discussed by the new body. Moreover, gaming activities like casinos, pokies, online gaming, among others, will be treated by the CNMI committee.
After a long hurdle that included protests from its workers, the Imperial Pacific International Holdings (IPI) held the grand opening of its Saipan casino Imperial Pacific during the first week ok July. The Commonwealth Casino Commission (CCO) granted IPI the permission to launch gaming operations at the Imperial Pacific Resorts late last month.
