Churchill Downs appoints Ben Murr as president of TwinSpires

Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has named Ben Murr as president of online gaming and its TwinSpires sports betting brand.

US.- Ben Murr, who has served as CTO for Churchill Downs Inc., has been named as president of TwinSpires and Online Gaming. Burr will be responsible for the overall strategy and operations of the businesses, effective immediately, after serving as interim president since October.

Murr has been with CDI for more than 14 years, also serving as president of United Tote and chief information officer. Before joining CDI, he worked in information technology leadership roles at General Electric. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master of Business Administration from Bellarmine University.

CDI CEO Bill Carstanjen said: “During his tenure with CDI, Ben has been an important leader in the growth across our operations. He has been a key player throughout the extensive changes in our Company over the last 14 years and will continue to move our TwinSpires and Online businesses forward.”

Murr took over as interim president when TwinSpires’ former head Ian Williams left to join Wynn Interactive in October 2021.

Murr said: “I’ve been heavily involved with TwinSpires and our online gaming operations throughout my tenure at CDI. I am passionate about these businesses and believe strongly in their future growth potential and strategic importance for CDI.”

Murr will continue to serve as senior vice president and chief technology officer in addition to his new responsibilities until a replacement is found.
