BCLC casino location still uncertain
Authorities are still trying to decide the location of an upcoming gambling facility in Delta, Canada.
Canada.- The municipality of Delta and the BC Lottery Corporation are still discussing the location to build a new casino in the city. The BCLC chose Delta through an evaluation committee that considered it as the top district regarding its strong market potential, community plans and transportation access.
Delta CAO George Harvie said earlier this week to the Reporter that they haven’t heard anything, and that he was sure that with the change in government things were being reviewed. Despite having no word on wether the BCLC will support its choice, Delta Town and Country Inn site has been chosen to host a casino at the junction of highways 17A and 99, just south of the Fraser river. Nevertheless, last year the BCLC expressed its concerns over Delta’s choice of locations as it believed that it wasn’t a feasible location due to its distance from the identified market opportunity and its proximity to the River Rock Casino Resort.
“We originally advised the BCLC that we would only be interested in the Town and Counrty site, and we’ve held firm on that,” said Harvie. Last week, it was reported that Mayor Lois Jackson said that Delta is the most suitable place for a potencial casino and commented: “Council passed a resolution to that effect and we haven’t changed it. That would have to come before council. Things might be slow at the moment with the change in government.”
