Australia is against online gambling
A “madness” is how federal ministers describe in-play mobile bettings.
Australia.- While William Hill and other major online casino operators are pushing Australian law to regularise the attractive market, a polling issued yesterday by The Australian reveals that 35 percent of congressmen are against the legalisation of in-play betting.
In view of next year’s federal elections in the island, members of Parliament say they would change their votes if the Coalition Party decides to spur online gambling. 33 percent of them assured that they would chose the current government if it shows signs of strong opposition to virtual casinos, as the Crosby Textor polling results demonstrate.
“The idea of watering down online gambling laws and allowing high-volume online in-play sports betting –turning every mobile phone into an online poker machine- is not politically smart at any time, let alone an election year,” commented a federal minister. The congressmen explain that these types of gambling products don’t “pass the smallest test” and that is why most of them can’t be convinced about the benefits of online gambling.
