Malaysia: 8 busted in raid on gambling operation

Police made eight arrests in a second raid in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, the day after three were arrested in a separate operation.

Malaysia.- Police in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, have carried out another raid on a suspected illegal gambling operation, leading to the arrest of eight men.

According to local media, the raid was carried at a condominium in Desa Petaling. Police seized 10 laptops, 22 sim cards and 18 handphones during the raid. Those arrested are aged between 18 and 40.

Police reported the apartment had been rented last month at RM3,000 per month and that each man working at the alleged online gambling centre was paid around RM2,000 per month.

Police made another raid in Cheras the day before and arrested three men. According to officers, one of the men arrested in that previous raid was believed to be the counter attendant while the others are believed to be customers. 

Police stated the illegal gambling centre was operating for at least a month, allowing entry only to regulars.

In April, police arrested 18 people, including 10 Chinese nationals, all of them aged between 18 and 39, in a raid on an alleged illegal gambling operation in Taman Orkid Desa, Kuala Lumpur.

A raid was also carried out in Jalan Tun Razak where police made eleven arrests at a suspected illegal gambling operation.
