Malaysia: 11 arrested over illegal online gambling
Police have made eleven arrests in a raid on an illegal gambling operation in Jalan Tun Razak.
Malaysia.- Police in Jalan Tun Razak, Malaysia, have carried out a raid on an apartment that was allegedly used as a call centre for illegal online gambling operations.
According to local media, police arrested eleven individuals who had allegedly been running the call centre for at least two months and making daily profits of up to MYR20,000 (US$4,858).
Police seized mobile phones, laptops and equipment used for gambling activities.
The Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department reported that the syndicate was believed to be promoting online gambling to Chinese nationals at the premises, which was rented for RM10,000 a month.
Police recently took action against a viral video clip that was promoting an online gambling platform outside of Malaysia. In March, officers made four arrests in Serian after carrying out two raids on alleged illegal gambling operations.
