Malaysia.- Police in Taman Orkid Desa, Kuala Lumpur, have raided an alleged online gambling syndicate that was running a call centre from a house.
Police arrested 18 people, including 10 Chinese nationals, all of them aged between 18 and 39.
According to local media, police said the call centre had been operating for at least three months promoting illegal online gambling and made daily profits up to RM100,000.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm Saiful Annuar Yusoff stated police seized 27 laptops, 109 mobile phones, and RM54,000 cash.
Police said that each worker was paid between RM5,000 and RM7,000 monthly while the caretaker earned RM15,000 a month.
A similar raid was carried out in Jalan Tun Razak a few weeks ago when police made eleven arrests on an illegal gambling operation.
Although lottery, casino games and horse racing are legal in Malaysia, online gambling is not permitted.
