Macau to see 4,229 new hotel rooms in coming years

There are four hotels under construction and ten projects awaiting government approval.

Macau.- A report by Macau’s Land and Urban Construction Bureau has concluded that the city will get 4,229 new hotel rooms in the coming years. There are four hotel projects in progress which will provide 2,928 rooms upon completion. Another ten projects, which would add 1,301 rooms, are awaiting government approval.

The majority of the new accommodations will be located on Cotai, where a single hotel with 2,724 rooms is being built. Meanwhile, 204 rooms are being developed on the Macau peninsula. The ten hotels pending approval comprise nine on the Macau peninsula and one in Taipa.

According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), at the end of 2024, there were 146 hotels in Macau, an increase of four compared to the previous year. The number of available guest rooms decreased by 7.8 per cent to 43,000. There are 12 five-starred deluxe hotels, 28 five star, 18 four stars, and 18 three-starred hotels.

In 2024, the average occupancy rate at hotels in Macau rose by 4.9 percentage points year-on-year to 86.4 per cent. The number of guests grew by 6.4 per cent to 14,433,000. Inbound package tour visitors totalled 2,103,000, an increase of 63.8 per cent year-on-year. The number of visitors from mainland China rose by 57.1 per cent, reaching 1,867,000. The number of international tour visitors rose by 157 per cent to 204,000.
