Arkansas requested court to reconsider ballot proposal
The group Arkansas Wins in 2016 requested the state Supreme Court to reconsider the ruling of the ballot proposal that would’ve allowed three counties to offer casino gaming.
US.- Supporters of the ballot were expecting that voters of Arkansas would decide if three counties in the state would be allowed to build casinos, but last week the high court ruled that the ballot title was misleading since it didn’t inform voters that the measure would violate a federal law that prohibits sports gambling in Arkansas.
However, Arkansas Wins 2016, the group behind the proposal, is now asking the state Supreme Court to reconsider the ruling. The group filed a petition to arrange a rehearing to discuss the decision to disqualify the proposal for a constitutional amendment.
The group stated that sports betting wasn’t something that needed to be included in the title since it’s not an essential feature on the proposal. Earlier this week, the Cherokee Nation, who would’ve run the Washington county casino if the measure passed, donated US$6 million to the group behind the casino legalisation proposal.
The proposal initially stated that 18 percent of each casino’s net gambling receipts would’ve gone to Arkansas, another 0.5 percent to the county and 1.5 percent to the city.
