Tesuque Casino furloughs 180 staff
New Mexico casino operator lets staff go after being forced to close its doors due to the Coronavirus crisis.
US.- The Tesuque Casino in New Mexico has furloughed 200 workers due to the Coronavirus crisis, according to local media.
The operator said it had taken the decision in order to safeguard jobs and allow staff to return to work once the crisis had passed.
“We would have like to have given more notice of this action, but were unable to do so because of how quickly our operations were affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Health Organisation’s pandemic declaration on March 11th, the President’s declaration of a national emergency on March 13th, and other related governmental announcements and actions,” the casino said in a notice sent to the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions.
On March 19, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham said that tribal casinos must close in a collective effort with New Mexico to combat the spread of Coronavirus.
“We are extremely grateful that our tribal partners have agreed to join us in doing everything we can to encourage social distancing as our best tool to contain the virus,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said.
