UK gamblers to monitor themselves
A new UKGC gambling regulation has been introduced to allow UK players to monitor their online activity in order to increase gambling awareness.
UK.- The United Kingdom Gambling Commision (UKGC) has introduced new measures that will provide gamblers with tools to check on their online gambling activity in order to control their habits and raise awareness. The UKGC will have companies providing customers with access to account and betting information as an effort to fight irresponsible gaming.
Operators will be compelled to give customers at least three months’ worth of data and account history information for minimum period of 12 months on request, with distinct totals for a defined period, Gambling Insider reported. New regulation will also have companies to guarantee customers’ access to net deposits information and will have to set financial limits across their gaming accounts and individual games. They have until April 1, 2018 to implement these changes.
Sharon McNair, the UKGC’s Programme Director, explained that the Commision had conducted consultations that indicated “there are differences in approach amongst licensees in relation to the level of information available to their consumers and the ease by which that information is accessible.” She explained that the new measures aim to address that issue and “ensure greater consistency in the information available to all consumers.”
She highlighted the transformation of the UKGC alongside the industry’s own and explained that it will keep adapting regulation “to raise standards across all gambling sectors and enhance the protections available for consumers.”
