Betfair to leave Canadian market

The company informed its customers that its services will no longer be available after January 14th.

Canada.-  Betfair will quit the Canadian market on January 14th, when the company’s services  such as fixed-odds sportsbook bets, exchange bets and all gaming products would no longer be available for the country’s residents (on land and abroad.)

As informed in several reports, Betfair’s Canadian customers received an email advising them to withdraw their account balances before that date or they will have to contact the company’s help desk to obtain their funds. However, the open sportsbook bets and the outstanding exchange bets that are settled after January 14th will remain in place.

Even though Betfair hasn’t issued an explanation regarding this matter, one of the causes to leave the Canadian market could be the merger with Irish betting operator Paddy Power, that left Canada in 2011, only leaving its B2B services to the provincial lottery monopoly in British Columbia.
