Sports betting effort fails in New York

Sports betting in New York will have to wait yet another year as lawmakers are expected to end the current session without passing the respective bill.

US.-  The sports betting legalisation effort in New York seems to have failed, as the current session has almost ended. Lawmakers are not expected to pass the segment’s regulation before it does, so it will have to wait another year.

Even as the Senate overwhelmingly passed legislation, the constitutionality of online betting remains a hurdle. That’s why the state Assembly won’t vote for it in the next few days.

However, Assemblyman Gary Pretlow – who’s pushing the bill – expects it to pass should it be voted on. “I’m 100% positive I have 76 Democratic votes… and there are at least 30 Republicans,” he said.”I think we should give the people of New York the opportunity to do what they want to do, which is bet on sporting events,” Pretlow said. “I respect the speaker, but he’s not a member of the Court of Appeals,” he added, as quoted by timesunion.com.
