Spain’s online gambling market experiences strong Q3

DGOJ’s figures indicate that online operators generated almost €182 million in revenue.

Spain.- According to Spain’s gambling regulator, Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ), licenced online operators experienced a strong third quarter, as they generated revenue of €182 million.

The revenue generated by the online operators represents an 8.7% increase over the second quarter of the year and an impressive 30% rise over the same period in 2017. Sports betting was the top scorer in the three-month period ended September 30, with an 11.5% increase from Q2 and a 27.4% rise year-on-year to €97.6 million.

Online casino generated €60.9 million, approximately one-third higher when compared to the same period last year. Online poker experienced the benefits from the shared liquidity agreement with operators licenced in Spain and France and increased revenue by 11% year-on-year to €19.8 million.

Moreover, licenced operators increased marketing costs by 56.3% in the third quarter to almost €76 million. Most of that figure was directed to advertising and promotions, with €36.4 million and €28.6 million respectively.
