Spain to introduce gambling ads restrictions

The government is planning to strengthen restrictions on gambling advertising.

Spain.- The current ruling party in Spain – Socialist Worker’s Party (PSOE) – is planning to introduce new measures to restrict gambling advertising in a move that aims to protect citizens against addiction.

The measures will be introduced in the budget for next year and has been agreed with another party that supports the current administration. The government wants to tackle “aggressive advertising tactics” used by online operators.

“It is increasingly common that broadcasts of football and basketball are flooded with ads for live betting, making this activity accessible to all types of people, including minors, and creating serious problems with gambling addiction. It is essential to address this situation,” reads the budget.

The party is in favour of gambling operators to participate in new ways to make the industry safer and help players avoid the negative effects. Moreover, it is estimated that there will be an increase in fees paid by iGaming operators in order to support the management of gambling.
