Osage Nation’s casino has opposition
The hypothetical casino that the Osage Nation would build in Jefferson City already has opposition.
US.- Osage Nation’s plan to build a casino in Jefferson City is now opposed by a conservative group. In order to land the permission to feature a gambling facility in the state, the tribe has to demonstrate its benefits.
As The Missouri Times reported, Governor Eric Greitens said in the past that he would support a Native American casino in the state if it was beneficial for the state and for the tribe. Rep. Jason Chipman, R-Steelville, representative for the counties where the casino would be built, said that he would support the casino as well, as it would bring more revenue, jobs and tourism for the county. “The devil is always in the details. I think it will provide an opportunity to bring more revenue into a county that really needs it. Overall, it would be a benefit for Crawford County, Cuba, the state and the Osage. Obviously, we don’t want to do anything that would be detrimental to the state,” he said.
On the other hand, public advisor for the influential Missouri Baptist Convention, Don Hinkle, said that the organisation would strongly oppose the Osage Naioncasino because people in it believe that it has a negative effect on society. “We’ll fight it tooth and nail because it’s bad stuff. A new casino coming to Missouri would be a bad and destructive thing. There is no way that Missourians who have a lot of common sense and are good at math… and they know that the numbers do not work. It doesn’t add up. Because of the vice and crime that casinos bring with them, they destroy families, they bring financial ruin, they prey on the impoverished, and they prey on our children.”
