Olympic continues to challenge Riga
OEG is set to continue its legal battle against the Riga City Council after it determined casinos in the Latvian city should close.
Latvia.- Olympic Entertainment Group (OEG) will keep fighting against the decision of the Riga City Council regarding the closure of its casino in the Latvian capital city. The Estonian-listed operator was struck by the District Administrative Court in Riga, which ruled against OEG and its intention to keep it open but has announced it will continue to challenge the decision in higher court.
“We will appeal the decision to higher level court,” CEO Madis Jääger had previously asserted about the ruling that sets October 2022 as the closure date for the casino. OEG operates seven of the 42 gambling halls that were affected by the City Council’s decision and is determined to take the dispute to the last instance, even as it may benefit its Olympic Voodoo Casino’s revenue since it’s located just outside the banned area.
The City Council approved the ban on May 2017 and, according to the advisor of the Latvian Gaming Business Association, Arnis Verzemnieks, the business district will see less foot traffic due to the ban and it is impossible for operators of Riga to consider long-term investments with the erratic regulatory environment.
