North Dakota passes sports betting bill
The House of Representatives passed legislation to approve sports betting in the state and sent the bill to the Senate.
US.- Sports betting continues to take over the United States as North Dakota has taken a step further into legalising the segment. The House of Representatives passed a legislation to approve betting on both collegiate and professional sports and sent the bill to the Senate.
The state used to be against sports betting but lawmakers seem to have changed their mind on it, at least after two votes on Wednesday. During the morning, the proposed legislation was rejected as it only got 46 votes (needed 48), but after a break representatives reconsidered the measure and passed it with a 52-38 vote.
The bill will now be heading to the Senate, where it may finally be approved and sent to the Governor’s desk to be signed into Law. It is expected that it will, as both chambers have a Republican majority and the Lower one has already supported its approval.
Rep. Michael Howe emphasised on the fact that unregulated sports betting already takes place in the state. “It’s already occurring in North Dakota,” Howe said. “Let’s keep that money in North Dakota for charities, addiction services and tax revenue.”
