Mount Airy asks for deadline extension

The casino asked the Pennsylvania regulator for an extension to submit its casino application.

US.- Mount Airy became the winning bidder for a Category 4 mini casino licence auction on February 8th and was given until August 12th to submit its application. However, it is now asking the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to obtain a two-month extension, in order to have time until October 12th.

The US$21.2 million bid established the centre point of the casino four miles east New Castle, near an intersection of two routes, and Mount Airy can locate a casino anywhere they want within a 15-mile radius of that point. The terms of the bid say that the company has six months to submit its application to the gaming board to specify the location and make its casino plans available.

The petition says that Mount Airy “has been diligently evaluating potential sites and working to identify a specific location to construct a licensed facility including evaluating the feasibility of potential sites to house (a facility); site strengths and weaknesses relative to other potential locations and the projected revenues from the respective potential locations.

“A thorough evaluation is required to ensure that the ultimate site… selected maximizes the revenue potential for the casino location and corresponding tax revenues for the commonwealth and the local community.”

Lawrence County commissioners chairman Dan Vogler commented that Mount Airy is not the first to ask for a deadline extension: “We remain in contact with Mount Airy and continue to tell them what Lawrence County has to offer — a region close to the Pittsburgh market and close to the lucrative eastern Ohio market. We welcome them to our community.”
